The Buccaneers have begun to create more cap space by converting Mike Evans base salary into a signing bonus. As reported by ESPN's Field Yates, the Bucs are one of few teams creating cap space via a veteran on the roster. Once again, Mike Evans is proving to be dedicated to the team by restructuring his contract.
This move will free up $9.5M in cap space as the team begins to build the final roster. As reported, the Bucs have reduced Evans' 2020 cap charge to $8,387.500 down from $17.95M, converting $12.75M into a guaranteed bonus.
With the deadline for roster cuts just under 3 hours, it'll be interesting to see if the Bucs will make any more moves with the remaining cap space. The Bucs aren't expected to name anything final until after the deadline. (Note: Beginning Sunday, the team can start signing players to the practice squad while continuing to pay players that are recovering on injured reserve.)
